light the country’s potential role in the global circulation of DENV. Our findings are corroborated by a recently reported case of dengue in a traveler from Portugal that was acquired in Luanda concomitantly with our cases and also found to be caused by DENV-4 (10). In light of the apparent introduction of DENV-4 to Angola, probably from Brazil, health authorities should be encouraged to enhance surveillance and vector control efforts. In addition, health practitioners treating travelers returning from Angola should be aware of the risk for DENV infection.

Detection of Borrelia lusitaniae, Rickettsia sp. IRS3, Rickettsia monacensis, and Anaplasma phagocytophilum in Ixodes ricinus collected in Madeira Island, Portugal.
A total of 300 Ixodes ricinus ticks were tested by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the presence of Borrelia spp., Rickettsia spp., and Anaplasma phagocytophilum. Sequence analysis demonstrated 8 (2.7%) ticks infected with B. lusitaniae, 60 (20%) with Rickettsia spp., and 1 (0.3%) with A. phagocytophilum. Seven (2.3%) ticks were coinfected with B. lusitaniae and Rickettsia spp., 2 (0.6%) wit...
متن کاملInfections and coinfections of questing Ixodes ricinus ticks by emerging zoonotic pathogens in Western Switzerland.
In Europe, Ixodes ricinus is the vector of many pathogens of medical and veterinary relevance, among them Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato and tick-borne encephalitis virus, which have been the subject of numerous investigations. Less is known about the occurrence of emerging tick-borne pathogens like Rickettsia spp., Babesia spp., "Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis," and Anaplasma phagocytophi...
متن کاملRole of the lizard Teira dugesii as a potential host for Ixodes ricinus tick-borne pathogens.
PCR screening of ticks and tissue samples collected from 151 Teira dugesii lizards seems to indicate a potential role of this lizard species in the maintenance and transmission cycle of some Ixodes ricinus tick-borne agents, such as Rickettsia monacensis, Rickettsia helvetica, and Borrelia lusitaniae, that are circulating on Madeira Island.
متن کاملBorrelia Diversity and Co-infection with Other Tick Borne Pathogens in Ticks
Identifying Borrelia burgdorferi as the causative agent of Lyme disease in 1981 was a watershed moment in understanding the major impact that tick-borne zoonoses can have on public health worldwide, particularly in Europe and the USA. The medical importance of tick-borne diseases has long since been acknowledged, yet little is known regarding the occurrence of emerging tick-borne pathogens such...
متن کاملRickettsia monacensis sp. nov., a spotted fever group Rickettsia, from ticks (Ixodes ricinus) collected in a European city park.
We describe the isolation and characterization of Rickettsia monacensis sp. nov. (type strain, IrR/Munich(T)) from an Ixodes ricinus tick collected in a city park, the English Garden in Munich, Germany. Rickettsiae were propagated in vitro with Ixodes scapularis cell line ISE6. BLAST analysis of the 16S rRNA, the citrate synthase, and the partial 190-kDa rickettsial outer membrane protein A (rO...
